46 Mountains is a website about two friends who are in pursuit of climbing all forty six High Peaks in the Adirondacks. The idea started in September of 2012 when we both realized that we had time between educational and professional engagements. Coupled with this free time was a will for adventure and challenge. This site should prove to not only be a story, but also a comprehensive resource for those trying to climb the 46 High Peaks. We will share information about our gear, the mountains, mistakes, triumphs, routes taken, and much more!

Everyone has their own opinion on what equipment you should bring when hiking. The gear you bring is going to vary based on the time of year, weather conditions, trail conditions, length and location of your trip. The fact of the matter is you want to over prepare. The more experience you get out there, the better you will know what gear you personally need and what gear you don’t need; the heavier your pack is, the more difficult the hike is going to be. Below are a few things we think you should keep in mind when you are deciding what gear you are going to bring on any trip.
